Point Pleasant Police Blotter: Drunken Driving Charges, Crashes

Two people were charged with DWI following crashes in July, police said.

POINT PLEASANT, NJ — Point Pleasant police charged four people with driving while intoxicated in July, including two who were arrested following crashes.

Here is the police blotter report from Point Pleasant police, provided Capt. Christopher Leonhardt:

July 1: At about 9 p.m., Officer Matthew Nickerson responded to an incident where a person had jumped from a moving vehicle on Route 88. The individual, identified as Gavin Piana-Emmet, 18, of Brick, was receiving medical attention when it was determined he was under the influence of alcohol and behaving disorderly. After treatment, Piana-Emmett was charged under the borough ordinance for peace and good order on a special complaint summons.

July 4: At about 1:40 a.m., Officer Michael Cappello conducted a motor vehicle stop on Bay Avenue near the Point Pleasant Beach border. The operator, Rebecca Sherman, 33, of Brick, was subsequently arrested for driving while intoxicated. Sherman was placed under arrest, processed, and released in accordance with John’s Law.

At about 6:20 a.m., Officer Christopher Henrich investigated a motor vehicle accident on Austin Avenue where a single vehicle struck multiple parked cars. Through his investigation, Officer Henrich determined that the operator of the at-fault vehicle, Jashon Woodard, 30, of Brick, was driving while intoxicated. He was placed under arrest, processed, and released in accordance with John’s Law.

July 6: At about 12:15 a.m., Officer Pierce Drzymkowski conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 88. The operator, Robert James, 44, of Springfield, New Jersey, was found to have an active warrant issued out of Spring Lake Heights Municipal Court. James was placed under arrest and was subsequently released after posting cash bail.

July 14: At about 8:50 p.m., Officer Matthew Nickerson investigated a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 88 and Bridge Ave. Through his investigation, Nickerson determined that the operator of the at-fault vehicle, Christopher Somerholter, 57, of Point Pleasant, was driving while intoxicated. He was placed under arrest, processed, and released in accordance with John’s Law.

July 15: At about 10 a.m., Officer Robert Cooper investigated a dispute at a local gas station. Through his investigation, Cooper determined that Carmen Vargo, 47, of Point Pleasant, acted in a violent and tumultuous manner towards a gas station attendant. He was subsequently charged under the borough ordinance for peace and good order on a special complaint summons.

At about midnight, Officer John Jakubiak responded to an address on Pinetree Place regarding a motor vehicle complaint. Upon arrival, Jakubiak made contact with the vehicle owner Thomas Francis, 32, of Jackson, who was found to have an active warrant issued out of Jackson Township Municipal Court. He was placed under arrest, processed, and subsequently turned over to Jackson Township Police Department.

At about 7:35 p.m., Officer Robert Tobias conducted a motor vehicle stop in the parking lot of a commercial establishment on Route 88. The operator, Daniel O’Shaughnessy, 32, of Toms River, was found to be driving while intoxicated. He was placed under arrest, processed, and released in accordance with John’s Law.
