Road Closures, Outages: Princeton Storm Update

Princeton has set up a cooling and charging station for residents, who are still without power following Tropical Storm Isaias.

PRINCETON, NJ — Roughly 1,500 Princeton residents remain without power on Thursday night. Here is the latest update on road closures, outage numbers, and help offered to those without power following Tropical Storm Isaias.

As of Thursday at 6:15 p.m., there are 1,535 PSE&G customers in Princeton who are still without power. In Mercer County, there are 2,831 PSE&G customers and 4,764 JCP&L customers without power.

PSE&G estimates power could be restored as late as Monday at 3 p.m., while JCP&L estimates power could be restored as late as Tuesday at 11:30 p.m.

Princeton's public works crews are working to remove trees that are not in/on wires to clear the roadways. Once crews are done with opening roads they will be out collecting brush townwide in accordance with the planned schedule:

  • Section 1: Week of Aug. 10
  • Section 2 & 5: Week of Aug. 17
  • Section 3: Week of Aug. 24
  • Section 4 & 5: Week of Aug. 31

They will be doing pickups in other sections as well as the scheduled sections as staffing and weather allows.

There are multiple roads still closed with trees and wires down including:

Trees/Wires Down (Blocking Roadway):

  • Pheasant Hill Road near Province Line Road (PSEG needed)
  • Laurel Road (PSEG needed)
  • Cleveland Lane (PSEG needed)
  • Herrontown Road (between Snowden Lane and Poor Farm) (PSEG needed)
  • North Harrison (near Franklin), over the sidewalk, not obstructing traffic
  • Walker Drive (does not require PSEG, low priority, no wires)
  • Drakes Corner Road (PSEG needed)

Wires Down:

  • 456 Riverside near Adams (off to side of road and passable, PSEG needed)
  • Turner Court
  • 252 N. Harrison Street
  • North Harrison Street (near Valley and Terhune) (off to side of road)
  • Cleveland Lane (between Lafayette and Library)
  • Mccosh Circle (off to side of road and passable, PSEG needed)

Trees suspended on wires (PSEG/VERIZON notified):

  • Riverside/Prospect (PSEG needed)
  • 673 Prospect Avenue (on private property, PSEG needed)
  • Pretty Brook near Pheasant Hill (tree removed but wires down, PSEG needed, roadway passable)
  • Queenston (PSEG needed, private road)
  • Drakes Corner (PSEG needed)
  • 137 Balcourt (on private property, roadway clear)

Roadways Closed:

  • Cleveland Lane eastbound (between Lafayette Road and Library Place)
  • Laurel Road
  • Spruce Street (east of Linden)
  • Herrontown (between Snowden and Poor Farm)
  • Pheasant Hill Road
  • Queenston Place (private road)

Traffic Signals Out:

  • Riverside Drive/Nassau Street (on flash)
  • N. Harrison/Valley
  • N. Harrison/Terhune
  • N. Harrison/Mt. Lucas
  • N. Harrison/Franklin
  • Nassau/University (on flash)

Help is also available for residents who remain without power.

Residents can come to the Community Room in the Princeton Municipal Building at Witherspoon Hall, 400 Witherspoon St. from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until further notice. The Community Room can be accessed from the entrance adjacent to the main parking area at 400 Witherspoon St.

Residents must wear a face covering while in the room (face coverings will be available for those that do not have one) and physical distancing is also required.
