Rain Could Bring Flooding For Princeton Thursday

A combination of rain and already saturated grounds has caused a flood watch to be issued for Princeton for Thursday by the NWS.

PRINCETON, NJ — A combination of rain and already saturated grounds has caused a flood watch to be issued for Princeton for Thursday by the National Weather Service.

The watch is in effect through 6 p.m. on Jan. 24. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected with locally higher amounts possible, according to the NWS.

There will be light to moderate rain in the early morning before becoming heavier through this early afternoon. It will then move offshore late in the day, according to the NWS.

Urban and poor-drainage flooding is expected to occur. Sensitive streams and creeks will also be susceptible to flooding, especially in areas with enhanced rainfall rates.

River flooding is also possible, especially on the Passaic, Rockaway, North Branch Rancocas, and Millstone Rivers.

Today: Rain, mainly before 4 p.m. The rain could be heavy at times. Temperature falling to around 45 by 5 p.m. Breezy, with a south wind 13 to 22 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 43 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 26. West wind 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 36. West wind 7 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 15. West wind 6 to 9 mph.
