RIDGEWOOD, NJ — A New York Giants player is giving back this holiday season to put smiles on kids' faces.

Jamie Gillan, the Giants punter whose nickname is the "Scottish Hammer," personally handed out toys to pediatric patients at Ridgewood's The Valley Hospital, and to a local child diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.

Gillan and several of his teammates distributed the toys, which were collected through the Scottish punter's charity Hammer's Helpers during a toy drive in November at Westfield Garden State Plaza.

The team also visited the child with the life-limiting illness, who is helped by Valley Health's home health care service, to give the patient toys, meet with the family and learn more about the diagnosis.

"I’m all about the kids and hanging out with them and making them feel loved,” Gillan said. "This is why I do this stuff with my charity."

During his charity's toy drive, Gillan met with fans and signed autographs, and all of the toys collected, along with toys purchased from funds raised, were donated to pediatric patients at The Valley Hospital and Valley Home Care.

“Valley is very appreciative and thankful to (Gillan) for his donation,” said Charles Vannoy, The Valley Hospital's Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Office. “The toys donated will be shared with our patients across all pediatric departments. "
