RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Fall is a great time to get outside in the Ridgewood area and take in the rich offering of festivals.

The changing colors of autumn provide a scenic background for fall and harvest festivals, which have contests ranging from apple bobbing and pumpkin carving to lumberjack contests and Halloween parades.

Fall is also the season for pumpkin patches, corn mazes and apple orchard visits.

Here are a few events in the Ridgewood area worth putting on the calendar for the rest of October:

1. Ridgewood Halloween House: Oct. 14, 15, 21, 22, 28, 29, 30; 6:30 to 9 p.m.; and Oct. 31; 4 to 9 p.m. (weather permitting)

2. Wayne Valley Fall Craft Show: Sunday, Oct. 16, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Wayne Valley High School, 551 Valley Road, Wayne, NJ

Don't miss a chance to start your holiday shopping at this exciting show. Over 100 exhibitors with arts and crafts will be set up in one huge gym. The show is sponsored by the Wayne Valley Band Parents and promoted by P.J.'s Promotions.

Just some of the items to be shown are stained glass, fiber, florals, charcuterie boards, soaps, jewelry, soft sculpture, totes, chocolates, signs, pottery, apparel, resin and metal art, folk art, hand-painted ornaments and gourds, pillows, birdhouses, wind chimes, quilting, tie dye and much more.

3. Walk with Us!: Sunday, Oct. 23, 9:30 a.m.

Bergen Community College, 400 Paramus Road, Paramus, NJ

Alzheimer’s New Jersey® is hosting its 2022 Walk to Fight Alzheimer’s. 100% of the funds raised from Walk to Fight Alzheimer’s supports New Jersey families through Alzheimer’s New Jersey’s programs and services.

Walk to Fight Alzheimer's teams are made up of families, friends, and co-workers who come together to raise awareness and much needed funds for Alzheimer's New Jersey programs and services, as well as research. Corporate, company and individual sponsorships are welcome. Eisai Inc is a Silver Sponsor for this year’s Walk. Biogen is a Bronze Sponsor.

Day of registration for the walk at Bergen Community College begins at 8:30 a.m. There will be an opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m. followed by the walk at 10:00 a.m. T-shirts will be distributed to all participants who raise a minimum of $50. There is no fee to register; however, donations are encouraged. To register prior to the day of the walk, go to www.alznj.org/walk.

4. Halloween Fest: Saturday, Oct. 29, 10:30 a.m.

West Side Presbyterian Church, 6 South Monroe Street, Ridgewood, NJ

Toddlers through fifth graders are invited to come to West Side — in costume, of course — for some super-fun "trunk-or-treating." The church will have DJ music, donuts and apple cider, too... and a costume parade at 11:15 am.

5. Haunted Harvest in Ridgewood: Saturday, Oct. 29, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Memorial Park at Van Neste Square

If you dare, walk through the Haunted Graveyard, or jump through the Pumpkin Patch. Join in on the Halloween Parade and Contest. Moms, dads, friends, grandparents, kids and pets are welcome.

6. Ridgewood High School New Players Trunk or Treat: Sunday, Oct. 30, 4 p.m.

RHS Little Theater and parking lot

Join for a spooktacular show followed by safe trunk or treating. Ages 3 and up are welcome. Tickets available at www.rhsnewplayers.ludus.com.
