Did you know that today there are around 1,200 national parks in over 100 countries – and it all started in the U.S.!

Congress established the world’s first national park in 1872 , designating Yosemite “as a public park or pleasuring-ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people.”
Today over 400 sites are administered by our National Parks Service, with the most visited including the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
