On Monday, June 3 at 7 pm, join Pete Axelrod of Wild Birds Unlimited to learn about ruby-throated hummingbirds. Found only in the Americas, hummingbirds have captivated all who have watched them dance and hover through the air. Axelrod will discuss the common attributes of the over 320 distinct species of hummingbirds and will delve more deeply into the life and habits of the ruby-throated hummingbird, the only one native to New Jersey. In addition, Axelrod will explain how to use plants and feeders to attract ruby-throated hummingbirds to your backyard.

Axelrod has been a nature enthusiast since age 5. His passion led him to study Wildlife Biology and Natural History Interpretation. Pete has volunteered in avian population studies, wild bird rehabilitation, habitat restoration, wildlife education and leading birding ventures throughout New Jersey (with NJ Audubon, Friends of Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, The Raptor Trust). He enjoys cycling, kayaking, and hiking and always has his binoculars handy.
