SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - A drunk driver who was apprehended by Scotch Plains police nearly ran over a swath of gas station attendants before prompting a police chase on Route 22 and spitting on paramedics, police said.

Quanirrah Y. Foster, 34, of East Orange, was charged with aggravated assault on police, aggravated assault on an emergency medical technician, eluding, resisting arrest and driving under the influence.

The charges stemmed from a chase that began around 7 p.m. on Thursday when Scotch Plains police responded to a report of a vehicle that struck a Delta gas station (2040 Rt. 22). An attendant later told officers that the striking vehicle was a white Mercedes that didn’t strike the gas station, but nearly struck several employees in the parking lot.

Officer Damian Serafin found the Mercedes on Rt. 22 and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled on Route 22 and a chase ensued. She was later arrested with a struggle, police said.

Foster remained uncooperative during booking, police said, as she “assaulted several officers and spit on EMS personnel brought in to evaluate her.”
