Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Competes in Long Course Cup Swim Meet

Great work team!

On May 31 to June 2, the FSPY swim team participated in the Long Course Cup swim meet at the Jersey Aquatic Center in New Providence, NJ. The meet was hosted by the Greater Somerset County YMCA’s (GSCY) swim team and included many local area YMCA teams. The Jersey Aquatic Center features an Olympic-size pool, perfect for long course races, which are swum in a 50-meter length course. For our swimmers this meet was the first opportunity of the season to dive into a long-course pool, and for many of the younger swimmers – first time ever! These races require a different set of skills, a lot of strength and endurance. Swimmers who met the qualifying time cuts could swim a distance event on Friday night as well as enter a maximum of three individual events and one relay per day over Saturday and Sunday. Congratulations to all FSPY swimmers on their swims!

Saturday sessions started with the 200M Free relays. Both FSPY 10under teams (girls: Gabriela Lukov, Brooklynn Mihansky, Samara Bithun, Isabella Manfredi; boys: Max Andreoli, Derek Liu, Jayden Yim, Jack Piskadlo), and the 11/12 girls (Rose Ferreiro, Juliet Bickoff, Milan Fevrier, Eva Lubenow) took 2nd place! Meanwhile, the 13/14 girls relay of Janice Yip, Jane Kavanagh, Zoe Llagan and Mary Ferreiro took 1st! 13/14 Boy (Dylan Mora, Achilleas Balakrishnan, Jase Villaverde and Jayden Le) came in 6th. 15O girl (Billie Sherratt, Laura Kim, Elle Cadigan, Catherine Ritter) placed 3rd. While the 15O boys (Brandon Calderone, Tim Kou, Dylan Lagrimas, Jason Ma) – 4th. Congratulations to our freestyle relays!
