Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA gymnasts compete

Team members place in a number of different categories

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Gymnastics Teams competed earlier this month.

The C Division team competed on Saturday, April 6 at Somerset Valley YMCA. They competed in four different age groups.

Aiden Steinwald took home 1st place in All-Around, Floor and Vault and 4th place on Balance Beam, in the 9 and under age group. First place on Bars was won by Sophia Monteith, who also placed 2nd on Vault and 3rd in the All-Around. Alana Lamberti had a 3rd place finish on Balance Beam while Evan Doran placed 4th in the All-Around.

Diane Morrow was the 2nd place winner Floor, the 3rd place winner on Vault, Bars and All-Around and took home the 4th place ribbon on Balance Beam, in the 10-year-old age group. Second place on bars went to Vivian Yu, while Alyssa Larmore took home the 5th and 6th place ribbons in the All-Around and Balance Beam, respectively. Jenna Glander, Emma Johnston and Julia Squashic also represented this age group.

Xing Liao went home winning 1st place on Vault and Bars and 2nd place in the All-Around for the 11-year-old age group.

Heather Sherman represented the team in the 12 and over age group. She placed 2nd on Vault, 4th on Floor and 5th on Bars.

On Sunday, April 7, the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA A & B Division Gymnastics Teams competed at home.

The A Division, Level 8 team was comprised of Jillian Miele, Ashley Sekiya and Nicalina DelRosario. Sekiya placed 1st on Bars and 2nd on Balance Beam, Floor and All-Around. Miele was the 2nd place winner on Vault.

The B Division, Level 7 All-Around winner was Alice Ping. Ping also won Vault and placed 2nd on Bars and 3rd on Balance Beam and Floor. First place on Balance Beam went to Ava Fazio, who also placed 2nd on Floor and All-Around. Tehya Stephens won 1st place on Floor, 2nd on Vault and 3rd place on Bars. Elizabeth Parvin tied with teammate Fazio for 2nd place on Floor. Spencer Doran also competed.

The B Division, Level 6 gymnasts competed in three age groups.

Agnes Yee placed 2nd on Vault and 4th All-Around in the 11 and under age group.

Eva Pereira won 1st place on Vault, placed 4th All-Around, 5th on Bars and Floor and 7th on Balance Beam in the 12/13 year old age group. Second place All-Around went to Jessica Dianda, who also placed 2nd on Vault and Bars and 6th on Balance Beam. Sarah Sicoli placed 3rd on Bars.

The 14 and over age group saw Madalyn McEvoy place 1st All-Around, 2nd on Vault, Bars and Floor and 3rd on Balance Beam. Jessica Glander took home 2nd place on Balance Beam, and 3rd place on Vault and Bars. Alana Beardsley placed 3rd on Floor.

Gymnastics classes offered at the YMCA include parent-toddler, preschool and school age classes. They are offered Monday through Saturday. This is a great time to begin taking gymnastics at the YMCA!
