FSPY Men’s Basketball League Week 10 results

The regular season is now in the history books

March Madness is upon us. After Week 10 play in the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Men’s 30+ Basketball League on March 3, the regular season is in the history books. The road to the Final Four begins.

Game #1
Winning team: Team 8 (53)
Losing team: SuperSonics (39)
Veteran Mike Ruccio pumped in 17 pts and snared 9 boards, and Gavin Ford finished with a 15-11 double-double, propelling Team 8 in the battle for second place. Ryan Cookerly cooked up a 7-pt, 12-reb gem, and Mike Pollack tossed in 6 to help T8 secure the 2nd seed for round one of the post-season. Super sniper Brendan Ryan was a one-man wrecking crew for the Sonics, who ended up as the #3 seed. James Patrick registered 7 & 8, and Chris Ward had 5 & 8 in a losing cause.

Game #2
Winning team: Draymond (59)
Losing team: Ocho Macho (46)
Capt. Jamal Berry poured in 24 pts, and rookie standouts Taj Belfield (13) and John Lukko (12) reached double figures, as Draymond concluded its campaign with a league-best 8-2 mark,and earned top-dog billing for the Big Dance. The Macho Men hung tough behind Geoff Gonzales’ 21 pts, but could not avert their 8th-straight loss. Tim Gray (8), Sudeep Duttaroy (7), and Westley Etheart (6) kept Ocho within striking distance at halftime. The two combatants will renew acquaintances in the first round of the playoffs.

Game #3
Winning team: Under the Radar (50)
Losing team: The Goonies (46)
News flash, with three wins in a row, U.T.R. is no longer a blip on the radar. Silky southpaw Eljay Aguillo stroked in 21 pts, and rookie Ross Lebrun did his best Lebron impersonation with 15 pts, 8 caroms, and 4 assists, as Radar overcame a feisty Goonie crew to snag the 5th seed. Jolting Joe DeGennaro (13 pts, 12 rebs) and league head honcho Kevin Adams (13) led the Goons’ attack, while Capt. Chris Mattina tallied 9, and Steve Lee stuffed the stat sheet with 7 pts, 10 boards and 5 dimes. The #6 seed Goonies will face the #3 seed SuperSonics in the playoff prelims.

Game #4
Winning team: RunAsOne (61)
Losing team: Lightning with a Splash of Thunder (56)
There was a playoff feel to this regular-season capper between two teams headed in opposite directions. Mid-season acquisition Charles Lott (20 & 8) dominated the paint, and was ably supported by fab frosh R.B. Alverna (17 pts) and Capt. Jason Shann (15 pts, 4 triples), as the Runners won its 2nd straight, and look forward to an opening-round engagement with #2 seed Team 8. The Lightning, who have lost 4 of its last 5, were paced by Warren Lowe’s 22 pts & 7 helpers, and center Troy Sims’ 18 markers. Orlando Jean-Charles chipped in 8 for the fourth-seeded Thunder, who will square off with #5 seed Radar when the Big Dance gets underway.
