How Many Inches Of Snow Is Scotch Plains Getting, And When?

Forecasters predict Union County will get several inches of snow, beginning Friday and going into Saturday.

SCOTCH PLAINS-FANWOOD, NJ — Snow flurries have already started this morning, but heavier snow is expected to come Friday night into Saturday.

Union County is under a Winter Storm Watch, with five to ten inches of snow predicted throughout the county. The storm is expected to begin around 7 p.m. on Friday and continue until 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The Scotch Plains Police Department said current flurries will continue through most of the day, but the real storm will move in overnight. Scotch Plains should expect three to seven inches in the area.

The Police advise residents to use caution if going out and be patient as crews work on clearing the roadways. They posted the following message to their Facebook page:

Friday Afternoon
A 30 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 34. Light northeast wind.

Friday Night
Snow, mainly after 10pm. Low around 17. Wind chill values between 5 and 15. North wind 7 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Saturday
Snow, mainly before 1pm. High near 23. Wind chill values between zero and 10. Blustery, with a northwest wind 18 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Saturday Night
Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 10. Wind chill values between -5 and 5. Northwest wind 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.
