Active and alert from the start, Susie ran before she could walk, swam before she could read, and rode horses at the county stable into her teens.

At the Presbyterian Church in Westfield, Susie took part in mission trips and handbell choir, and served dinners at the Wednesday Agape program from sixth grade through high school.

She made many friends along the way and kept connected like the rest of her generation: she was truly attached to her phone.

Susie focused on American Sign Language at Union County College and became acquainted with the deaf community. She enjoyed these people, as well as the members and her office co-workers at Community Access Unlimited.

Susie often cared for her friends’ children, too -- and she had a rather demanding pet rabbit called “Your Highness” who was her apartment companion.

With energy and heart, Susie grew up to be a person who knew how to value her friends and family, and who made sure we knew it. She never took life for granted, either, but lived a lot in the time she had. We will miss her.

There will be a memorial service for Susan on August 2, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Westfield www.westfieldpc.org at 140 Mountain Avenue, Westfield, NJ.
