Money Available To Create A Greener Scotch Plains, Fanwood

More than $1 million in grants is available all Union County towns to enhance or create local parks and plant or maintain trees.

Scotch Plains/Fanwood, NJ -- Scotch Plains and Fanwood are eligible to take advantage of $1 million in Kids Recreation grants to enhance or create local parks.

Along with the Kids Recreation grants, $100,000 in Greening Union County matching grant funds are also available to all 21 municipalities through the Union County Open Space, Recreation and Historic Preservation Trust Fund.

The Kids Recreation grant can be used to develop, enhance or renovate parks and recreational facilities. The Greening Union County grant allows municipalities to purchase, plant and maintain trees within their towns.

Since its creation in 2000, the Open Space Trust fund has provided more than $16 million in matching grants to build new or improve playgrounds, plant trees, pocket parks, recreational areas, playing fields, pools, picnic areas and much more. More than 300 acres of open space land has also been preserved from development.
