Route 22 East Connector To Close Next Week In Hillside

The $10.3 million federally-funded project will replace the Route 22 eastbound connector ramp to Hillside Avenue.

HILLSIDE, NJ — The Route 22 eastbound connector ramp to Hillside Avenue will be closed next week as a $10.3 million federally-funded safety improvement project begins in Hillside, New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials announced.

The project will replace the existing bridge with a new one that meets current design and safety standards and improves the clearance over Route 22. It will also include an acceleration lane for the Route 22 eastbound entrance ramp from Hillside Avenue, a deceleration taper for the Route 22 eastbound entrance ramp to Hillside Avenue, and a right turn lane in the area between N Broad Street and Harding Terrace, NJDOT stated.

The connector ramp to Hillside Avenue will close beginning on Monday at 9:30 a.m. The ramp from Hillside Avenue to Route 22 eastbound will remain open.

  • Motorists traveling eastbound on Route 22 wishing to take the eastbound connector ramp to Hillside Avenue will be instructed to exit right at Bloy Street
  • Turn Right on Bloy Street
  • Turn Left onto Long Avenue
  • Turn left onto Central Avenue
  • Turn left onto North Broad Street
  • Turn left onto Hillside Avenue
