Severe Thunderstorms, Lightning, Hail Expected In Union Co. Monday

A line of thunderstorms is predicted to roll into Union County Monday afternoon and continue into the evening.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, lightning and hail are expected to roll into Union County Monday afternoon, according to an alert from the National Weather Service.

A line of thunderstorms is expected in the afternoon and into the evening, the NWS predicts. Numerous thunderstorms could become severe with damaging winds and large hail. An isolated tornado has not been ruled out.

The storm is expected to begin at around 1 p.m. and continue until 9 p.m., according to NWS.

Wind gusts of up to 58 mph could damage trees and power lines, and up to one inch of hail could result in minor damage to motor vehicles. A marginal flash flood risk is also predicted, NWS said.

Union County advises residents to charge up handheld devices in case of power outages and secure any lightweight items in yards, including trash cans, toys and lawn chairs.
