Scotch Plains

Out of an abundance of caution for Township employees, the Scotch Plains Municipal Building closed early at noon, Thursday due to the winter storm.

Scotch Plains Police also announced a new snow removal system where they will be sending out an alert to let all residents know when the DPW begins to plow the streets.

The alert will ask residents to remove their cars from the roadways as DPW will begin plowing in 30 minutes.

"We are hoping by doing this it will give our residents time to move your vehicle off the roadway, let DPW make a clean sweep of the streets, and you can then return your vehicle to it's parking spot once the plows have passed your location," police said.

"They may have to make multiple passes depending on how much snow falls, but the initial pass will be the biggest one and we are trying to avoid burying in as many vehicles as we can. This will also allow for the DPW to clear the streets much faster with the no parked vehicles in their way," said police.

The DPW will not begin plowing until at least 3 inches of snow are on the ground.

Fanwood

Due to today’s inclement weather, the regularly scheduled curbside recycling pickup will not be completed Thursday.

Residents are asked to leave their bins curbside as the pickup will be completed Friday. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the customer service hotline at 908-226-2518.

Plow crews are out and residents are asked to please move their cars off the street.

Residents should not shovel or snow blow their snow back into the roadway after it has been plowed as this creates a hazardous condition.

Borough Code 259-22 states that residents shall remove all snow and ice from any sidewalk in front of their property within 12 hours of daylight after the snow has fallen or formed.

All emergency services are in full operation. Call 911 in an event of an emergency. We also encourage residents to help and check-in on their elderly and disabled neighbors.

The Plainfield Municipal Utilities Authority (PMUA) has informed us that recycling will be picked up today as scheduled.
