16-Year-Old Suffers Injuries After Colliding With School Bus In Fanwood: Police

The 16-year-old girl suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries after the collision on Wednesday, police said.

FANWOOD, NJ — A 16-year-old girl crashed into a school bus in Fanwood while riding her bicycle on Wednesday, according to Fanwood Police.

The collision occurred at about 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Portland Avenue and Birch Street, police said. The teenager was riding her bicycle north on Birch Street when she hit the driver's side of the school bus, just below the driver's side front window, according to a preliminary investigation.

Police said the bus was traveling west on Portland Avenue at the time. The girl suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries. She was rushed to University Hospital in Newark for treatment, police said.

There were about 21 high school students on the bus who were not injured, nor was the bus driver, police said.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood school administration personnel also responded to the scene, police said.

Officer Michael Rusin is continuing to investigate the incident.
