Union County Deer Hunt To Begin January 9 In Scotch Plains

A total of 144 deer were killed during the deer hunt in 2016 in Union County parks.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — The annual Union County Deer Management Program will begin in January in six County parks and one municipal park.

The program will operate in:

  • Watchung Reservation (Berkeley Heights, Mountainside, Scotch Plains, Springfield, Summit),
  • Passaic River Park (Summit portion),
  • Ash Brook Reservation (Clark, Scotch Plains),
  • Lenape Park and Nomahegan Park (Cranford, Kenliworth, Springfield, Union, Westfield),
  • Oak Ridge Park (Clark),
  • and the Hawk Rise Sanctuary (Linden).

Hunting in all of those parks will occur on Mondays from Jan. 9 to Feb. 6. In the event of a holiday (Jan. 16) or inclement weather on a Monday, the hunting activity will be moved to Wednesday of that week. Inclement weather on Wednesday would push the program to Friday.
