Union County's Sydney McLaughlin Advances To Finals In Olympics

McLaughlin, a Union Catholic HS of Scotch Plains graduate, easily won her semifinal heat during a rainstorm on Monday at the Olympics.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Another win for Sydney McLaughlin, a 2017 graduate of Union Catholic Regional High School in Scotch Plains, is advancing into the 400-meter hurdle finals at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

McLaughlin easily won her semifinal heat during a rainstorm on Monday morning. Watch her Semifinal heat here.

She will now face off against fellow American Dalilah Muhammad on Tuesday at 10:30 p.m.

This will be an exciting race to watch as McLaughlin recently crushed Muhammad's world record when she became the first woman to run the 400m hurdles event in under 52 seconds.

McLaughlin competed in June during the Olympic Trials coming in at 51.90 seconds beating Rio gold medalist Muhammad's previous record of 52.16, according to NBC Sports. Read More: Union Co. Runner Beats 400m Hurdles World Record At Olympic Trial
