Union Man Dies After Falling Off Ladder Taking Down Christmas Lights

The 62-year-old fell head-first onto the concrete walkway outside his home after attempting to take down Christmas decorations, police said.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — A 62-year-old Union man died on Saturday after falling head-first from ladder while taking down Christmas lights from his home, according to Union Police.

When officers arrived at the 900 block of Ray Avenue in Union at around 11:52 a.m., they found the man lying on the ground in front of his house suffering from severe head trauma, Deputy Chief Scott Breslow told Patch.

Breslow said the man landed on his front concrete walkway and struck his head.

He was given immediate medical care and was rushed to University Hospital in Newark by a Union Fire Department ambulance, Breslow said.

Union Police later received a call from the medical examiner that the resident died from his injuries.

Breslow said no one witnessed how high up the man was prior to his fall. He said the home was two-stories high.
