PLAINFIELD, NJ — The White Castle restaurant on South Avenue in Plainfield located right on the border near Fanwood has permanently closed.

A spokesman for the burger chain pointed to lack of sales for the reason it closed.

"We just weren't able to sustain the business with the sales we were able to achieve at this location," said White Castle Spokesman Jamie T. Richardson.

Workers at this location were offered continued employment with White Castle, Richardson said.

"...as a family owned business we're committed to being strong overall for the long haul. Sometimes the tough part of that is needing to close a location now and then that isn't at the sales level we need it to be, and that’s what happened in this instance," Richardson said.
