Here's Who's Running For Secaucus School Board This Fall

Seven people filed to run, and Secaucus residents will be asked to choose three. There are some familiar names:

SECAUCUS, NJ — Supplied by Secaucus town clerk Michael Mara, here are all the people who filed to run for Secaucus school board this November.

The election will be the same day as the U.S. presidential election, Nov. 5.

There are three seats open, for a three-year term. Voters will be asked to choose three:

  • Melissa Howard - "Advocate for Education." Currently on the Board, seeks re-election.
  • Audry Yule - "Community Winning Resolutions" - Yule ran for a seat on the Secaucus Board of Ed. in 2021 and lost.
  • Valerie Giraldo - "Community Winning Resolutions"
  • Tatiana Geller - "Excellence in Education"
  • Gerald Lyons - "Excellence in Education" - Lyons used to live in Jersey City and he served on the Jersey City school board for nearly 10 years. He is a newcomer to Secaucus, having just relocated here in the past year. He is a teacher in the Hudson County vo-tech school district, where he taught for decades.
  • Jamie Fisher - "The People's Voice"
  • Monica Berckes - "A Winning District" Her husband is the cousin of former Secaucus High School principal Dr. Robert Berckes, who quit the district after he got into a dispute with the Board of Education in 2019, and was paid by the Board for the length of his contract. Berckes ran for town school board in 2022, with Nick Mattiello, but she did not win a seat.
