In one crash, South Brunswick Fire Chief and his son had a close call, narrowly missing the impact, police said.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Over the weekend, there were two separate incidents in which two cars crashed into different homes.

The first happened at 4:38 p.m. when South Brunswick Fire Chief Scott Smith and his young son had a close call.

The duo was in the living room when a car crashed into their Ridge Road home, just a few feet away from where they were.

The second crash took place around 5:18 p.m., on Andover Drive. Police said a driver was backing out of the driveway when they hit the accelerator instead of the brake.

As a result, they struck two air conditioning units and a home before finally coming to a rest in a backyard.

The 75-year-old driver from the second crash was uninjured, police said.

Both houses were inspected and deemed structurally sound.

"We are extremely thankful that Chief Scott and his son are okay", Police Chief Raymond Hayducka said.

"The fact that 2 homes were struck by cars in a matter of 40 minutes and there were no serious injuries, is a miracle."
