Blazing Heat Causes Air Quality Alert In Scotch Plains, Fanwood Monday
Summer is officially here and so is the heat. Check out what to expect in the weather forecast for this week.
The first day of summer is here and boy is it making itself known.
The blazing heat is here with temperatures today reaching around 90 degrees.
Due to the heat, the National Weather Service has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Alert for Somerset and Union counties.

The alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups," the National Weather Service posted.
Sensitive groups include children; people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases; and the elderly.

To minimize the effects of air pollution people should avoid strenuous activities or exercising outdoors.
- Here is what the weather looks like for the week:
Today: Sunny, with a high near 90. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.
Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tuesday: A slight chance of showers before noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Tuesday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 9pm and midnight. Mostly clear, with a low around 55. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 86. Light northwest wind becoming west 6 to 11 mph in the morning.
Wednesday Night: A slight chance of showers after 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 58. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Thursday: A chance of thunderstorms before 8am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
Thursday Night: A chance of showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 59. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 59.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 86.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 88.
