Summit Road Closures In Effect This Week Due To PSE&G Project

SUMMIT, NJ - A PSE&G gas replacement project in Summit has prompted several road closures and detours in the city this week, officials said.

Gas pipe replacement work to replace aging mains is expected to be completed by early summer 2023 depending on project progress over the winter, city officials said in a statement Monday. The work started in January 2022 to replace cast iron pipes with new, durable plastic and/or coated steel piping.

Here are the streets set to be closed this week due to the gas pipe replacement work:

• Waldron Avenue between Whittredge Road and Springfield Avenue
• Hillside Avenue between Crescent Avenue and Deforest Avenue
• Morris Avenue between Bedford Road and Norwood Avenue
• Essex Road between Whittredge Road and Springfield Avenue
• Rotary Drive between Tanglewood Drive and Highland Drive
• Canoe Brook Parkway between Iris Road and Woodland Avenue
• Dale Drive between West Lane and Tanglewood Drive

Summit police will be on site to direct traffic, city officials said. Work will take place Monday through Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., weather permitting.

The gas main replacement and services portion of the work was previously expected to take place through December 2022.

As of Wednesday, here are the completed streets in Summit:

• Bellevue Avenue between Summit Avenue and Hillorest Avenue
• Bellevue Avenue between Hillorest Avenue and Beechwood Road
• Beacon Road between Fernwood Road and Hobart Avenue
• Debary Place between Springfield Avenue and Hobart Avenue
• Ruthven Place between Springfield Avenue and Franklin Place
• Canoebrook Parkway between Bedford Road and Beverly Road
• Beverly Road between Morris Avenue
• Beverly Road between Morris Avenue and Canoebrook Parkway
• Beverly Road between Canoebrook Parkway and Woodland Avenue
• Fremont Road between Beverly Road
