Thieves Plunder Multiple Unlocked Vehicles In Toms River

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Toms River police are urging residents to double-check that their vehicles are locked after wallets, sunglasses and more were stolen from vehicles during a recent string of break-ins.

"Please be aware of a recent rash of vehicle burglaries," police said. "Lock your doors at all times and keep valuables out of sight help to prevent your vehicle or house from being illegally entered."

Police said they received the following reports. They did not give a timeframe on when the crimes happened:

  • Ridgeview Court: Cash/wallet removed from a Hyundai Elantra and Nissan Maxima.
  • Cypress Point Drive: Pocketbook removed from a white Jeep reported to be locked.
  • Sequoia Circle: Unlocked GMC Sierra pickup entered but no items appeared to be missing.
  • Black Birch Court: Unlocked Dodge 150 pickup entered but no items appeared to be missing.
  • Indian Hill Road: Vehicle theft, a tan Chevy Suburban.
  • Golden Hemlock Way: Wallet containing credit cards and ID removed from an unlocked GMC Yukon.
  • Ridgeview Court: Sunglasses removed from an unlocked Dodge Durango and Mazda CX5.
  • White Spruce Drive: Jacket and spare fob removed from a white Ford F150 that was reported to be locked.
  • Firestone Road: Wallet and headphones removed from an unlocked Chevy Trailblazer.
  • Indian Hill Road: Surveillance camera captured a person attempting to open a door handle of a Dodge Charger in the driveway; the vehicle was locked and the person ran away.
