Toms River Man Dies As Boat Runs Aground In Raritan Bay

SAYREVILLE, NJ — A Toms River man was pronounced dead Monday after he was found unresponsive on a boat that had run aground in Raritan Bay, authorities said Tuesday.

Kenneth Halvorsen Jr., 53, was found on the boat and taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased, Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said.

New Jersey State Police were called at 1:53 p.m. about an unresponsive person on a vessel that was traveling in circles on Raritan Bay near Sayreville, Lebron said.

The boat had run aground by the time troopers arrived, he said.

The incident remains under investigation, Lebron said.
