Why are you running?
I am running because I believe that education is one of the most important services we provide to our community. For us to deliver the best quality educational system for our students, we have to invest strategically and wisely. This requires diverse, steady leadership that involves people from varying backgrounds to make decisions that are sometimes tough and unpopular. This isn’t easy; nothing that is worth it is. However, that is exactly why I have valued my time on the BOE and look forward to continuing to work hard for this community.

What is your platform?
None

Do you have previous experience in the world of politics and government?
I have worked in public education for 15 years. I was the 1st Vice President of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) N.J. Chapter from 2014 to 2019. I have been a member of the Wall Township Board of Education since 2019.

What are the most important issues facing your constituency, and how do you plan to deal with it?
The most important issue is addressing the learning loss associated with virtual learning. We are only now starting to measure and fully understand how far behind the COVID environment has pushed us. As this year progresses, we are going to need to take a more targeted systemic approach to get those students that are struggling support so that they don’t continue falling behind, especially those on the cusp of graduating and making their way out into the world, wherever that may be. Younger students will get more time to recover from learning loss, so making sure our older students are ready for life after high school is my more immediate focus.

The other issue that has been evident to anyone that has watched or attended our board meetings, trust. My approach has always been to use a triple bottom line model in assessing my decisions and trying to drive consensus. The trust issue will not be healed overnight; however, using a sustainable approach to governance would be a step in the right direction. We need to have a solid foundation in place to build that trust upon.

Why should voters vote for you?
First, I am the only one on the ballot. Literally. My wife thinks I’m nuts. She’s probably right. Second, I actually do enjoy this. I value my time being able to make a difference. Public service is a privilege, and I take great honor in doing it. If there is someone else you want to do this, please vote for them. We need more people willing to be involved in our community from different backgrounds that are willing to speak up and make a difference.
