WARREN, NJ — Micheal "Mick" Marion announced he will be resigning from the Warren Township Committee at the end of the year.

Marion, who had been serving since 2011, announced just before midnight on Friday that he will be resigning from his position on Dec. 31. Marion would have served his final year of his three-year term in 2023.

"I am thankful for having had the opportunity to be involved with the Township of Warren in many different capacities, but I feel that it's now time for me to transition into spending more time with family, focusing on other interests, along with growing my family business," said Marion.

"The goal of keeping taxes low and maintaining fiscal responsibility, especially during an out-of-control inflationary environment, is a top priority. I will maintain my commitment to seeking and preserving Open Space for its permanence in maintaining our township's farm-like community. This effort will help to ensure that we have the best plan possible to control sprawl and hostile affordable housing initiatives from the State. Also, supporting our Police, EMT, and Fire Departments with all the necessary resources to serve and protect township residents is paramount. The importance of this can't be stressed enough during challenging times and events such as the recent pandemic and continued severe weather threats," wrote Marion.

Marion went on to recount his accomplishments while serving on the township committee such as his proposal and development of East County Reserve's passive recreational park, including a dog park; negotiating with the County on new turf field replacement and improvements to the Pop Warner Complex; and his decision to address the need to revisit and pursue more Open Space in Warren which led to the purchase of two local farms, the Morecraft Farm of 20-plus acres on Ferguson Road, and the Miller-Gaddis Tract of more than 17 acres on King George Road.

Marion thanked his Township Committee colleagues and residents.

"To my Township Committee colleagues, I wish you all the best moving forward with sound governance, reflecting the qualities of those who came before us, to keep Warren the best Township in New Jersey. To you, the wonderful residents of Warren, it has truly been an honor to have served you. Regardless of political affiliation or past differences, I view all of you as neighbors and friends, which is an acknowledgment of the strength of our community," wrote Marion. "So, thank you. Thank you, all, for your ongoing kindness and support over these many years. To have served you will always be my honor and privilege."
