Part Of Route 208 Closed After Snowplow Falls Onto Highway

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — Part of Route 208 northbound will be closed overnight for emergency bridge repairs after a snowplow fell through the floor of a footbridge and onto a truck Monday morning.

At least one southbound lane of the highway will be closed while the footbridge is repaired, the New Jersey Department of Transportation said in a press release.

Protective shielding will be installed underneath the footbridge before the Goffle Road exit in Hawthorne.

IEW Corp. will work with the goal of reopening Route 208 before the Tuesday morning commute, the DOT said.

At least one southbound lane will be kept open while work is completed. The overpass will be closed until further notice.

A detour on Route 208 northbound will take motorists on the Lincoln Avenue exit and onto Goffle Road.

Electronic signs will inform residents of the closure and detour.

The incident happened at 11:03 a.m. when police received a report of a motor vehicle crash on Route 208 northbound just south of the Goffle Road exit, said Hawthrone Police Capt. Jeffrey Vanderhook.

Three people were injured and taken to local hospitals, the captain said. The identities of the victims and the driver of the Bobcat were not released.
