Route 46 To Close Today, Thursday For Blasting

Breaking: Route 46 in both directions is scheduled to be closed today and Thursday at 11:30 a.m., officials said.

Route 46 will be closed today and Thursday for blasting as part of a massive road-widening project.

Both sides of Route 46 and local roads will be closed near the Notch Road Bridge in Woodland Park at about 11:30 a.m. for 15 minutes for excavation blasts. The project will widen routes 3 and 46 and improve traffic flow on the highways and Valley, Notch, and Rifle Camp roads.

Measures are being taken to minimize the noise and impact to traffic.

The blasting is part of a $40.8 million project designed to improve Routes 3 and 46 and Valley and Rifle Camp roads interchanges. Work began in January 2016.

A two-way service road is being built, three traffic lights installed and two single-lane roundabouts near Route 46 West are being constructed in an effort to remove vehicles from Route 46. Work is expected to be completed in the fall of 2022.
