Wayne Police Hiring Entry-Level Officer: See Requirements, How To Apply

WAYNE, NJ —Wayne Township Police are looking to hire an entry-level officer to join their ranks, with applications due by early October.

Wayne PD is under the command of Deputy Chief Joseph Rooney, who was selected to lead the department as Jack McNiff heads towards retirement.

The police force currently consists of 126 sworn officers in three divisions (Patrol, Investigative, and Operations), serving more than 54,000 residents over an area of 26 square miles.

The entry-level police test consists of a written exam on Oct. 19, then a panel interview in early November for those who score an 80 percent or above on the written portion, and then a physical agility test for the top 50 candidates.

  • Be a citizen of the United States.
  • Possess formal education or training as evidenced by a senior high school graduation certificate or an equivalency certificate.
  • Possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the New Jersey Department of Education at the time of filing an application for the upcoming written entrance exam on Oct. 19, 2024.
  • Have never been convicted of any crime of the first, second, third or fourth degree as designated by the Criminal Code of New Jersey, or a crime or felony offense in any jurisdiction that involved moral turpitude or, at the time of application, is undergoing or awaiting court action of any kind in regard to such a crime of felony offense.
  • Be at least 21 and not more than 35 years of age at the time of appointment to a full time position within the Wayne Township Police Department.
  • Be able to obtain a State of New Jersey Law Enforcement license in accordance with Title 52 of the NJ Police Training Act.

Interested candidates must file their application through the PoliceApp website, and there is a $130 registration fee (which includes the testing fee). Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 7.
