WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield Historical Society will hold the eighth in a popular series of architectural walking tours on Aug. 8, this one to the downtown churches of Westfield. It will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The intent is to look at the diverse architectural styles of five of the many churches — some having great historic significance near downtown Westfield.

Gregory Blasi, a local architect and principal of Vincentsen & Blasi Architects, who is also the Westfield Historical Society president, will lead the tour and answer questions.

Blasi will discuss how the architecture of these churches differs depending on the time they were built and the design elements unique to the churches. Pending approvals from the churches, some may take place inside the church.

The tour will accommodate 20 attendees, but additional tours will be scheduled if interest warrants. It will take place rain or shine.

Participants are encouraged to wear face masks, bring hand sanitizer and practice appropriate social distancing. The tour meetup location will be provided to registrants. Please RSVP by email to [email protected]; or call (908)654-1794.

A donation to the Westfield Historical Society is appreciated: $10 for members, and $20 for non-members, and will be collected at the start of the tour. Membership information will be available.

The Westfield Historical Society celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018. Since 1968, the 501(c)(3) non-profit Westfield Historical Society has worked to preserve, interpret and encourage interest in history, Westfield, and its residents through educational efforts and community outreach programs.
