Jamaica Organization of New Jersey (JON-J) Recognizes Jamaica’s 62nd Year of Independence with Celebrations Across the State: Flag Raising Ceremonies, “Awards of Excellence” Fundraising Gala, Worship Service and Community Events.
New Jersey – In celebration of its 26th Anniversary and to commensurate Jamaica’s 62nd
year of Independence, The Jamaica Organization of New Jersey (JON-J) is hosting signature events across the Garden State.
Esteemed members of JON-J are celebrating the organization’s milestone events and advancing its mission of service to the community by hosting numerous events, the most pivotal of which are: 
<ul><li>Independence Thanksgiving Service—Sunday, August 11, 2024, at 4 pm at West Side Worship Center COGOP, 192 W. Demarest Ave. Englewood, NJ.</li><li>The Annual “Awards of Excellence” Fundraising Gala, scheduled to take place on Friday, August 23rd, 2024, at 8pm. This celebration will be held at the Hanover Manor located at 16 Eagle Rock Ave., East Hanover, NJ. The Gala will be followed by an exclusive Post-Event Brunch with honorees, dignitaries, and special invited guests on Saturday, August 24th from 10am to 2pm.</li></ul>
The organization also hosted several Flag Raising Ceremonies to include the Official State Flag Raising Ceremony on Friday, July 26, 2024, in New Brunswick, NJ in association with Middlesex Board of Commissions (Middlesex County). Additional Flag Raising Ceremonies took place on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Newark City Hall in association with the City of Newark (Essex County); and on Friday, August 2nd at Paterson City Hall in association with The City of Paterson (Passaic County).
JON-J proudly celebrates with Jamaicans across the State as the organization seeks to raise funds to provide support for those in need here in New Jersey and back at home. In conjunction with providing scholarships to college bound students, proceeds from this year’s Fundraising Gala will support JON-J’s signature project for 2024 - the Mico University College Pre-University Men’s Program (PUMP). Established in 2008, PUMP aims to provide young men, ages eighteen to thirty a second chance to enter college; increase the number of male teachers in the classroom; and provide an alternative pathway to crime and violence. 
This year’s Gala keynote speaker and recipient of JON-J’s 2024 Award of Excellence for Lifetime Achievement is Dr. Errol Miller - a renowned educator, public servant, scholar, and chronicler of Jamaica’s system of governance. 
Twenty-six years ago, seventeen patriotic, resolute Jamaicans came together to form the Jamaica Organization of New Jersey in the City of East Orange. Their vision was to preserve the Jamaican culture for their first and future generations of children in their new home. Of utmost importance was to help with disaster relief, food insecurity, assistance, celebrations, education, and provide emergency aid and assistance. The mission Family/Food, Assistance, Celebration, and Emergency Relief (F.A.C.E.) is the legacy of Rev. Dr. Alfred Johnson, President Emeritus. 
Out of JON-J, several members in turn formed other organizations such as the Caribbean Medical Mission and Help Jamaica, both of whose central mission is to assist with medical and health care needs of individuals back on the island.
JON-J went from one county chapter - Essex, to seven county chapters: Bergen, Essex, Mercer, Middlesex, Passaic, Sommerset and Union and working on charters for three additional counties by the end of the year. “We are immensely proud of what we have accomplished and look forward to many more years of service to our communities here and back on the island we call home,” said, Owen Eccles, President of JON-J, “We are recommitting ourselves to JON-J’s mission and vision and preserving our Jamaican culture and legacy for generations to come.”
JON-J would like to express an open invitation to the community to support the 2024 fundraising Gala on August 23rd. The esteemed members of JON-J are looking forward to celebrating with the community at this event and future celebrations to come.
JON-J is a registered 501c3 non-profit organization representing citizens of Jamaican heritage throughout the Garden State.

Did you know that art can positively impact your health? 
<a href="https://www.zufallhealth.org/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Zufall Health</a>, a nonprofit community health center headquartered in Dover with a facility in West Orange, incorporates the therapeutic value of art ​into patient care through its Arts In Health program. 
See some of this beautiful art on display at the opening reception of "New Beginnings," a group exhibition, on Thursday, September 12.
In addition to original works of art, guests will be treated to light refreshments, wine, live music, and the opportunity to win a door prize gift basket. No RSVP is necessary.
Arts In Health aims to add another dimension to the care Zufall provides by adding a sense of comfort and beauty to an atmosphere traditionally considered sterile, and helping to alleviate the anxiety of being in a medical setting. On a broader scale, Arts In Health reaches beyond Zufall patients and staff to culturally enrich the community by providing new channels for creative expression.
