West Orange School Board Election Results: Vera Leads Huerta (UPDATED)

WEST ORANGE, NJ — New Jersey voters cast ballots in races across the state on Tuesday, including the contest for the West Orange Board of Education. Polling places closed at 8 p.m.

In West Orange, voters got to cast ballots for the local board of education. There were two candidates running for one open seat on the board (the term lasts for three years). School board members are non-partisan and unpaid.

The candidates are incumbent Melinda Huerta and challenger Maria Vera.

With 94.59 percent of districts reported, Vera has a wide lead over Huerta. Here are the uncertified results as per the Essex County Clerk's Office (one open seat):

  • Melinda Huerta – 1,660 votes (33.51%)
  • Maria Vera– 3,294 votes (66.49%)
