Edison, Piscataway Stop & Shops Will Close By The End Of 2024

Announced Friday. Ten New Jersey Stop & Shops were identified for closure as part of the chain's strategy to "position for growth."

PISCATAWAY, NJ — This just in: The Stop & Shop grocery store on Rt. 22 in Piscataway, and the two in Edison (Inman Avenue, Rt. 1 South) are all on the chopping block to close.

Stop & Shop announced this Friday, July 12.

Those three locations are part of 10 New Jersey Stop & Shop supermarkets slated to close as part of the chain's strategy to "position the company for growth."

All 10 locations were identified as "underperforming" stores. Stop & Shop did not elaborate.

No exact closing dates were given, but all 10 stores in New Jersey will close by the end of 2024, the company said.

Stop & Shop has about 350 stores across the Northeast. The chain will shutter 32 total stores across the Northeast. The supermarket chain initially announced plans to close stores in May.

Here are the 10 Stop & Shop stores closing in New Jersey:

  • 1083 Inman Ave., Edison
  • 1049 US Highway 1 South, Edison
  • 4861 US Highway 9, Howell
  • 1278 US Highway 22, Phillipsburg
  • 581 Stelton Rd., Piscataway
  • 625 Paterson Ave., Carlstadt
  • 1221 State Route 27, Franklin Township
  • 130 Skyline Dr., Ringwood
  • 505 Richmond Ave, Point Pleasant Beach
  • 2275 West County Line Rd., Jackson

"Stop & Shop has evaluated its overall store portfolio and made the difficult decision to close underperforming stores to create a healthy base for the future growth of our brand," Stop & Shop President Gordon Reid said in a news release.

The company said it will offer jobs at other supermarket locations to workers whose stores will close.

Stop & Shop is owned by the Dutch conglomerate Ahold Delhaize.
