BED-STUY, NY — A young Bed-Stuy man who shot at an NYPD officer will serve 20 years behind bars, the Brooklyn District Attorney announced Wednesday.

William Moss, 23, of Stuyvesant Heights, also faces five years of supervision following his lengthy sentence after he confessed to shooting at a cop on Christmas Eve 2020 in Brooklyn, according to District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.

"It’s a miracle Officer Boalick wasn’t more seriously injured or killed when he was shot by this defendant while answering a domestic violence call," Gonzelez said.

Moss's bullet was stopped by Connor Boalick's bullet-proof vest that night when police were called to Crown Heights to protect Moss's girlfriend, prosecutors said.

Over the phone, Moss had threatened to shoot at his girlfriend's window on Bergen Street — a threat her mother heard before calling the police, prosecutors said.

About 9:05 p.m., six officers encountered Moss outside his girlfriend's home and Moss shot twice — the first missed, and the second lodged into a 27-year-old cop's bulletproof vest, prosecutors said. The shooting was recorded on the cops' body-worn cameras.

Police can be seen on video chasing Moss down screaming, "drop the gun" and "don't f---ing move" as they approach the man and put him in handcuffs.

Boalick had bruising and cuts on his back after he was shot, prosecutors said.

Moss ran, and two officers chased after him, shot at Moss and missed and eventually grabbed Moss a few blocks away, prosecutors said.
