Former Congressman Ogden Reid Dies At 93

He switched his party affiliation to Democrat in 1972 because he could not support Richard Nixon's re-election.

WACCABUC, NY — Former Israeli ambassador and congressman from Westchester Ogden R. Reid died at the age of 93 Saturday in his home in Waccabuc. Reid, a Republican, served a decade in Congress beginning in 1962.

He switched his party affiliation to Democrat in 1972 because he couldn't support the re-election of Richard Nixon, the Journal News said.

Reid was the president of the Herald Tribune in the 1950s.

In 1959, he was the ambassador to Israel, and in 1983, he unsuccessfully challenged Andrew O'Rourke for Westchester County executive, the Journal New said.
