Hudson Valley Athletes Urged to Honor Young Man Shot Dead Walking Home from Game

The recent death of a talented basketball high school student in the mid-Hudson Valley has prompted a call for support from throughout the athletic community.

Rich Thomaselli, columnist for hudsonvalleysportsreport.com, is appealing to the athletic and academic community from around the Hudson Valley to pay tribute to Caval Haylett Tuesday by wearing the No. 5.

Thomaselli also wants people to tweet out photographs of 5 for 5 to show Haylett’s family they were thinking of them on the day of Caval’s funeral.

Caval Haylett was shot while standing on a City of Poughkeepsie Street Thursday.

He was walking home after having scored 21 points in the Dutchess County Basketball Coaches Association Exceptional Senior Game, according to the Daily Freeman.

The young man had interest from Division III and junior colleges because of his basketball skills.
