Katonah-Lewisboro SD School Board & Budget Election Results Are In

The voters decided on the $124M Katonah-Lewisboro schools budget and which candidates will serve on the board of education.

CROSS RIVER, NY — The ballots are in and voters have decided on the 2024 budget and school board.

Three seats were up for election on the Katonah-Lewisboro Board of Education.

The proposed spending plan of $124,318,762 was approved by voters, 1179 to 517. The new budget is 3.61 percent higher than the current budget.

The tax levy is expected to rise 3.4 percent.

District officials said that the budget will support: instruction, general support, pupil transportation and undistributed.

"Next year's school budget reflects our commitment to maintaining KLSD's outstanding educational environment in a fiscally responsible manner," school officials said. "Our proposed budget protects the rich educational programming and effective class sizes that serve our students well. And it does so while staying below the New York State tax levy cap."

There were three propositions which would have no impact on taxes and no additional debt would be incurred.

  • Proposition #2: Apply existing funds from 2023-2024 budget for vehicle replacement.
  • Proposition #3: Apply previously approved funds from 2022-2023 budget for vehicle replacement.
  • Proposition #4: Apply Inflation Reduction Act rebate to bond project.

All three propositions passed.

Three board seats were be up for election. Two seats are for full, three-year terms. The third seat is an unexpired term running from May 21, 2024 to June 30, 2025.

Jon Poffenberger was elected to the remaining year of vacated term (through June 30, 2025). Marjorie Schiff and Barbara Williams were elected to full three-year term (through June 30, 2027).
