Lifetime Katonah Resident Burton Barker Dies At 65

His family said he enjoyed seeing different parts of the world and a nice Merlot on his patio.

KATONAH, NY — It is with great sadness that the family of lifelong Katonah resident Burton Barker announces his passing on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at the age of 65.

Barker was born to parents David and Bessie Barker on November, 21, 1952, in Mount Kisco. He grew up as the second eldest of four and graduated from John Jay High School. He attended Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio; New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico; and continued his pursuit of higher education locally throughout his adult life.

Barker worked as a deli clerk across the area and was the primary caregiver for his mother in her later years. He enjoyed seeing different parts of the world and a nice Merlot on his patio. Barker had an innate artistic ability, and loved all things involving design and fashion.

Barker is survived by his brother, Gary Barker; niece and nephew, Ashlee and Peter Barker; sister-in-law Bonnie Merchant; dear friend, Dolly McGuire; confidante Cynthia Green and her daughters; several cousins; and numerous friends throughout the community. He was predeceased by his mother, father, brother Peter and sister Lynn.

Barker's cremation took place on Aug. 30, 2018. Friends and family will be invited to attend the scattering of the ashes this fall. Details to follow.
