Memorial Mass Aug. 3 for Evelyn Chamberlin

She was a teacher, organist, choir director, volunteer

Evelyn (Lynn) Dale Allen Chamberlin, 94, of Williamsburg, VA passed away on January 10, 2015.

She was born on December 31, 1920 in Saratoga Springs, NY to Chester J. and Elsie K. Allen. She attended local schools and graduated with honors from Skidmore College with a major in Music. She also received a Masters Degree from the University of Connecticut. She taught music in Averill Park, NY and Mt. Kisco, NY in Westchester County.

There she met and married Kenneth G. Chamberlin in 1947. They lived in Bedford, NY for over 30 years and had three children. During this time, Mrs. Chamberlin was the organist and choir director at St. Patrick’s Church in Bedford. She was a Lady of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul and conducted choir as a volunteer at the Bedford Hills Women’s Correctional Facility.

She, along with five other mothers, founded a pre-school cooperative nursery school for their children which is still in operation. Mrs. Chamberlin also served on the Board of Directors of the Mt. Kisco Day Care Center for many years. She was a member of the first Northern Westchester Twig Unit of the Northern Westchester Medical Center.

In later years, she returned to teaching and was a faculty member of the Bedford School District, a past president of the Teachers’ Association, and a LIfe member of the NY Retired Teachers.

At retirement, she and her husband moved to Heritage Hills of Westchester in Somers, NY and spent their winters at their home in Deerfield Beach, Florida. She was active in AAUW in Boca Raton, Florida and the Northern Westchester NY branch, serving on the executive board in Florida.

In 1997, the Chamberlins moved to Williamsburg Landing in Williamsburg, VA. Mrs. Chamberlin continued to be active serving on the Williamsburg Landing Residents’ Board, was a past president, and served on the Corporate Board during this period. She was a member of the Christopher Wren Society and a parishioner of St. Bede Catholic Church.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years, Kenneth G. Chamberlin (1920-2013). She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Ann Hansen and her husband, Torben Hansen, two sons, Bruce Allen Chamberlin, and Craig Gilbert Chamberlin and his wife, Frances Chamberlin, and four grandchildren: Elliott Gordon Chamberlin, Rachel Ann Chamberlin, Catherine Rand Chamberlin, Emily Allen Chamberlin.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony was held in February in Williamsburg, VA. On August 3rd a Memorial Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Church followed by a private burial at Bedford Union Cemetery, both in Bedford, NY.
