Obituary: Theresa Melito, Longtime North Salem Resident

Theresa Melito of New Fairfield, CT, passed away on February 2, 2022. She was 85 years old.

Born on July 9, 1936 in Bronx, NY, daughter of Francesco and Filomena (Gallo) Moschella, Theresa was a graduate of Cathedral High School, in Bronx, NY. On November 5, 1961, she married the love of her life Leonard D. Melito and moved to North Salem, NY in 1976 to raise their family.

Theresa put her life into her family; they were her passion. She was an Administrative Assistant at North Salem High School for over 20 years before she retired. Her happiest times were spent being surrounded by her four grandchildren and taking an active role in their lives, school activities and upbringing. She enjoyed playing cards, scrabble, and other games with people she loved. In her quiet time, you could find Theresa listening to 50’s music and watching classic movies. She had a vibrant personality and smiled at everyone she encountered. Theresa was a devout Catholic who attended mass weekly, a regular supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and was caretaker for her husband for 13 years.

Theresa is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Nevins and her husband John of New Fairfield, CT and Denise Melito and her fiancée Greg Marino of Bedminster, NJ; her grandchildren Jake, fiancé Katherine and son Leo, Dana Nevins and Sage and Samantha Rudolf; her sisters, Gloria Gargiulo of Monterey, CA and Frances Caputo of North Salem, NY and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard, as well as her sister, Maria Mangino, and her brothers, Paul, and Dominick Moschella. She will be greatly missed by many loving family members and friends.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 9 at St. Joseph Church in Somers, NY. Interment will follow at Peach Pond Cemetery in North Salem, NY. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster from 9am-11am. Condolences for the family may be left at Beecherfuneralhome.com
