Contentious School Board Race Hinged On Support Of Special Education

BEDFORD, NY — The polls have closed and the votes are counted — the unofficial results of the Bedford School District election are in.

The 2023 budget and school board vote included two seats up for election on the Bedford Central School District Board of Education.

The proposed spending plan of $152,538,000 is 3.04 percent higher than the current budget.

Voters approved the budget.

The tax levy is expected to rise 2.19 percent, which is below the state's tax cap.

"While we are certainly grappling with some significant challenges within the proposed budget, this plan nonetheless delivers a sustainable pathway toward opportunity and excellence," Superintendent Robert Glass said.

Two board seats were up for election. Candidates running included: Liz Goldman-Sider, Rica Mendes, Betsy Sharma and Kristine Stoker. Sharma and Stoker won those seats.
