WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — As a reminder to motorists to stay alert while on the highway, the NYSDOT has released hair-raising footage of an SUV slamming into a stopped roadside assistance van launching the service vehicle into the air and sending it rolling end-over-end.

There were miraculously no life-threatening injuries as a result of the April 16, crash on I-684 near the Saw Mill River Parkway, according to the Katonah Fire Department. The SUV reportedly hit both the New York State Department of Transportation H.E.L.P. truck parked on the shoulder and the disabled van being assisted. Four people were taken to the hospital.

"This is a reminder of NYS Move Over Law which requires motorists to use due care when approaching stopped emergency or hazard vehicle with warning lights activated," KFD officials said, noting that this 'accident' was preventable. "The law also says if it’s a multi lane roadway you must move from the lane immediately adjacent to the emergency vehicle. If you cannot move over due to traffic or other factors you must reduce your speed."
