Scouts plan next season's activities

The scouts of Troop 301 took the lead last night in charting an ambitious course for their troop's upcoming programming year. In keeping with the Scouts' core values of leadership development and youth empowerment, the planning meeting was facilitated entirely by the junior scout leaders.

Senior Patrol Leader Natalie D. led the discussion and opened the floor for the scouts to begin proposing ideas for monthly outings, weekly meeting activities, summer camp locations, and other special events.

"We really wanted to put the planning process even more into the hands of the youth members this year," said Scoutmaster Doris Peter. "The scouts worked really hard to develop an amazing lineup of activities that will help them advance on the trail to Eagle, learn essential outdoor skills, and most importantly, have a ton of fun together."

Key highlights include 3 camporees, a whitewater rafting campout, backpacking trip in the Adirondacks, participating in the annual Klondike Derby competition, sea kayaking, and a trip to Niagara Falls. The troop also voted once again do a February Freezer at Ward Pound Ridge based on their outstanding participation and experiences previously.

With the calendar set and duties assigned to youth leaders, Troop 301 is ready to embark on another outstanding program year.
