HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The potential for heavy rain over long periods has raised flash flood concerns in parts of the Hudson Valley and the chance of thunderstorms in other parts of the region.

A slow-moving storm system will bring periods of moderate to heavy rainfall to the Hudson Valley today into tonight, according to the National Weather Service. There is a marginal risk for flash flooding and thunderstorms in northern areas of the region. The chance of flooding decreases in areas further south, but those areas are more likely to see thunderstorms this afternoon.

The hazardous weather outlook includes Orange, Rockland, Dutchess, Ulster and Westchester Counties. New York City and parts of New Jersey and Connecticut are also included in the NWS hazardous outlook. While flood warnings are in effect in northern areas of New York, the agency forecasts only a marginal risk of excessive rainfall and flooding in the areas closer to New York City.
