HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

And if you are in an organization that has some need for volunteers, be sure to let us know by emailing [email protected].

This week we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

Volunteer Host Families are needed to welcome a child (or children) into their homes and to provide a much-needed safe place for children to spend the night when they visit their mothers and participate in Children's Center programs and Taconic and Bedford Correctional Facilities. Children range from ages 6-17 and they stay with their host family for 4 or 5 nights. The Host Families drop off the children at the facility each day at 8:45 a.m. and pick them up after 2:45 p.m. Host Families must pass a screening and orientation. You must be 25+ to sign up for this project.

Community Giving Cupboard Program Volunteers
The Extended Family provides meaningful activities for adults with intellectual or physical disabilities in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. One such activity is the Community Giving Cupboard project, in which individuals help sort and pack food products that are then donated to local pantries. Volunteers are needed to assist project facilitators with planning and organizing activities and assisting with inventory. This is a great opportunity for college students as well as retired teachers, especially those with experience in special education. Volunteers must be 20+.
Date: Flexible schedule
Organization: The Extended Family
