BRENTWOOD, NY — A Brentwood addiction treatment agency that offers a life-changing program is now available for Long Island residents.

The New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) announced that a Integrated Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) officially had its ribbon cutting in Brentwood on Monday.

The facility, operated by Outreach Development Corporation, will operate six days a week, providing addiction treatment and resources to people on Long Island. The program is being supported with a one-time grant of $206,000 in federal funding administered by OASAS, as well as more than $1.1 million in annual state funding, a release said.

It will officially open on January 4, 2023, a spokesperson said.

“This new program will bring much-needed services to Long Island, and will help people access treatment and support closer to where they live,” said OASAS Commissioner Chinazo Cunningham. “It is critical that we continue to work on establishing these types of facilities throughout New York, and help to support all New Yorkers who have been impacted by addiction.”

Located in the agency's Adult Outpatient Program at 998 Crooked Hill Rd, Building 5, the program is designed to fill the growing need for treatment options on Long Island, and is developed to be more patient-centered.

They are focused on bringing comprehensive services, including medication for opioid use disorder, together under one roof, and making it easier for people in high-need areas to access treatment and other resources in a single location, a release said.

“The escalating problem of addiction has necessitated the need for expansion on our part,” said Debra Pantin, president and CEO of Outreach Development Corporation in a previous release. “Sadly, treatment programs are more in demand than they have ever been. But, gratefully, New York State and Nassau and Suffolk Counties, have seen the need and are working with us to help those in the community who are suffering, both those who are addicted and their families."

Different treatments of the program include assessments, methadone maintenance, clinical counseling utilizing a trauma informed, person centered care approach, psychiatric evaluation, peer services, case management, and vocational assessments and counseling.

According to the National Institutes of Health, nearly 92,000 people in the U.S. died from drug-involved overdoses in 2020, including illicit drugs and prescription opioids. In 2019, the latest year for which figures are available, there were 182 and 290 opioid-related deaths in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, respectively.

In April, Attorney General Letitia James secured up to $228 million for Long Island, as a result of settlements with the manufacturers and distributors of opioids. The New York State Department of Health also released a report indicating that 2020 was the deadliest year for overdoses in history.
